![]() ![]() Unlike other Dawi, normally dour and depressed, the dwarfs of Barak Varr are known as the most accepting and hospitable of their kind, and more than willing to look on the bright side. It’s non-reliance on land made what few entrances the hold had not from the sea easy to monitor and fortify, and its sea-ward defense of numerous batteries of artillery (Not to mention the Navy itself) resulted in Barak Varr riding out the Time of Woes and the subsequent disasters after it relatively unharmed. From without, the Hold remains perfectly hidden, and even from the shore it appears the numerous ships that enter its piers vanish into the natural harbor within the mountain carved from the treacherously powerful currents of the Black Gulf. The Expedition Gathers, Barak Varr Awaits!īarak Varr, or the Gate to the Sea certainly earns its name as the busiest port hold within the Karaz Ankor, and rivals the trade monopolies of both the Merchant-City of Marienburg and even the Arabyan Sultans of the Sahran Desert. The path will be long and hard, laced with danger and beset by the many enemies of the Dwarfs, but for the many who join the end more than justifies the mean. Dawi of all kinds rally to the call of the Throne of Power, but even then the dwarfs swallow their pride and shame and allow for the recruitment of mercenaries to ensure the success of this long journey. Now the High King Thorgrim Grudgebearer, with aid of Barak Varr, sponsors and expedition to the Hold. until a century ago, a dwarf returned with proof of not just its existence, but its location. For centuries, the Hold of the Upland Plateau seemed a thing of myth. Tales have gone on long of the Hold still living in the times of old, wealthy and powerful, hospitable and kind, though all who find it never seem to find their way back. Of that hope remains the Tale of Karak Zorn, one of the oldest Holds of the dwarf homeland, placed far to the south of the Worlds Edge mountains. And yet, there still remains some hope among the nihilism so common amongst the dawi. From the War of Vengeance to the Goblin Wars, the loss has been mind shattering for many who recall the good old days long after the Golden Age has passed. Very few, such as the stubborn Karak Azul, stand strong and alone. Many a hold has been found destroyed, and occupied at the hands of the great enemy. To those foes who stand between the dawi and Karak Zorn…įor thousands of years, the Karaz Ankor has stood strong, beset upon all sides by enemies who would break her gates and ransack her halls. The dawi of the Karak Zorn Expedition would have nothing to lose, and everything to gain. However, if successful, it would be the culmination of a legend that has existed since the days of the Goblin Wars. The danger will be tremendous, and the likelihood of success and survival low. ![]() The ultimate goal of the Expedition is to confirm the existence and location of Karak Zorn and, if possible, reclaim the hold if lost (and if possible), or reestablish contact with the hold should it still hold out. Despite the present seeing many of the Ankor's throngs already on the march or unable to lend significant support, High King Thorgrim Grudgebearer declares the formation of the Karak Zorn Expedition to gather in the port hold of Barak Varr, offering boons and the open coffers of Karaz-A-Karak to any dawi who would participate. Karak Zorn, the legendary lost hold of the south, the Hold of the Upland Plateau has been found, truly found with evidence gathered after nearly a century of thorough investigation and record delving. ![]()
